Ero alla ricerca di un nuovo materiale: desideravo un supporto leggero e facilmente assemblabile e trasportabile. Quando incotrai il Maestro Song vidi la sua maestria artistica applicarsi ad un materiale semi-trasparente, leggero, resistente, naturale, preparato e lavorato con manuale perizia secondo una tradizione antica, che affonda le sue radici nel mito e sconfina nel rito e nella pratica religiosa. Fui immediatamente certo di aver trovato quel che avevo tanto cercato. Chiesi che mi venissero preparati dei pezzi di quel cuoio, in forma quadrata, fissati a leggerissimi telai di bamboo. Dopo la prima mostre (Windows Wide Shut - ECAA -Alassio 2009), in cui essi venivano presentati soprattutto nella loro funzione di "ombra" (come i Nang Talung RUp, le marionette del teatro delle ombre Thailandese da cui essi derivano) decisi di montarli sul light boxes in modo da esaltare il dettaglio del cesello e della colorazione. Due foto di water reflexions scattate in due diversi mari, uno Italiano ed uno Thailandese, sono combinate, per ogni NangTalung in un'unica immagine. Le linee grafiche del disegno, ricavato da tale immagine, sono tradotte in intagli della superfice del cuoio che ho quindi dipinto all'acquerello. Mostre : 2010 Coniugazione Italiane. I was looking for a new material: I wanted a lightweight easy to assemble and transportable one. When I met Master Song I saw his artistry applied to a semi-transparent material, light, strong, natural, prepared and worked with manual skill according to an ancient tradition that has its roots in myth and ritual, and borders to the religious practice.I was immediately certain that I had found what I had been sercing for.I asked to have pieces of that leather, square-shaped, mounted on light bamboo frames. After the first exhibitions (WindowsWide Shut – Alassio ECAA-2009), in which my NangTalung they were presented, especially in the role of "shadows” (just like the Nang Talung Rup, the Thai shadow puppets from which they derive) I decided to mount them on light boxes in order to enhance the detais of the engraving and painting.

“Coniugando Mari” (Conjugating Seas): for eachNangTalun of thie series, two photos of water reflexions coming from two different seas, one in Italy, the other in Thailand, are combined into a single image.
